In today’s #weddingwednesdays post, Rachel will be discussing the rules or traditions that she’s either kept or did away with.

“Lets talk about some wedding traditions and if  Arthur and I  chose to keep to the tradition or go with something new!

Rule: Your wedding dress has to be white.

-KEEP! I am keeping this one for sure.. To me this is not one I am into breaking, I am not a fan of different colored wedding dresses. The only place I have seen this is on Say Yes To The Dress…

Rule: You have to wear a long white veil.

-Keep.. Well my veil isn’t really long.. It is semi-long, up to around my elbows I guess

Rule: You can’t see each other until the ceremony.

-Not Keeping! {If you have been following the blog you will see} I am doing a first look for sure. Love, love, love first looks! {And I am hoping Arthur will shed a tear or two 😉 }

Rule: You should make your exit in a shower of rice.

-Not Keeping. I am not sure if we are doing any kind of exit.. Maybe bubbles? I love the way bubbles look in photos! But I haven’t really thought too far into it 🙂

Rule: Bridesmaids are female and groomsmen are male.

-I am keeping this, but I have seen more and more lately where brides and grooms aren’t.. And I am not totally against it.. I think it actually makes out for really cool pictures.

Rule: Bridesmaids should wear matching dresses.

-Not Keeping! I had always planned on having the bridesmaids wear matching dresses, but I am so happy that I chose to let them pick their own dresses.. It makes everyone happier and the bride does not have to deal with any complaints about the dress 🙂

I also like when bridesmaids have different color dresses!

Rule: Your father should walk you down the aisle.

-Keep! How could I not have my dad walk me down the aisle.. I am a Daddy’s girl after all 🙂 However, I have seen brides have their mothers and even their sons walk them down the aisle which is of course special.

Rule: Your guests must be seated on two sides.

-Not sure if I am keeping.. I don’t really care one way or the other 🙂 But of course we see often “Pick a seat, not a side”

Rule: You need one flower girl and one ring bearer.

-Not keeping.. We are not having any flower girls or ring bearers..

Rule: Wedding ceremonies take place in religious institutions.

-Not keeping.. As you all know, I may reception is a Lippincott Manor and the ceremony is too. It is such a beautiful ceremony site in the middle of a field under a willow tree.. Can you get any more beautiful than that?!

Rule: You should register for fine china and kitchenware.

-Not keeping. I am not a fine china kind of gal.. Give me dishes from Target any day 🙂

Rule: Your engagement ring should be a diamond.

-Keep. If you have seen my ring, you can see that it is a diamond. But I have seen more and more lately engagement rings that have other stones .

Rule: You have to do a bouquet and garter toss.

-Keep. We will be doing a bouquet and garter toss. I just think they are so much fun 🙂 Another option that people have been going with is an anniversary dance.”
